Nine05: Case Study
Nine 05 is a luxury skincare brand with an initial product line including hand-poured soy candles, moisturizer and lip balm. All products are hand made in California with all natural ingredients and essential oils, so it was important that the logo design feels as natural and conscious as the products.
The logo design consists of a hand-lettered wordmark combining a sans-serif font and serif-style numerals. The wordmark has been hand-lettered to reflect the artisanal, handmade products offered and the care that goes into making them. The design is paired down as to not complicate the simple and pure foundation of the brand and reads as un unpretentious, but higher-end product. It was important that the logo appeal to the boutique skincare market while remaining slightly gender-neutral, as the owner plans to expand into skincare products for men in the future.
The final criteria for the logo was the versatility to be applied to multiple product labels while maintaining simplicity in the overall design.
The second phase of this project was created the labels for the lotion, lip balm and candle, as well as business cards and other assets.
My client wanted to use a number system for the products, instead of creating different names, which inspired me to design the labels with a very utilitarian feel. I created a standard label style where product numbers and ingredients could readily be switched out.
I used a natural, but vibrant color scheme to differentiate between products, as well as to add more interest to structured style. The result was a simple labeling system that compliments and translates the natural and homeopathic qualities of the products.
